Privacy-first firearms records
Know where you can carry.
Prove what you own.
CCW reciprocity for all 50 states and complete records of your collection — permits, serials, values, maintenance — stored on your device, not in someone's database.
The glovebox system
A spreadsheet for serials. A camera roll full of receipts. A forum thread from 2019 for state laws. It works — until you need it to.
One instrument panel
Permits, inventory, laws, maintenance, and ammo in one place — current, searchable, and ready when the insurance company or the state line asks.
The free tool
See every state that honors your permits
Reciprocity is a 50-piece puzzle that changes under you. Add your permits once and the map answers it at a glance — with citations, so you can check the source yourself.
- 1Add your CCW permits and issuing states
- 2The map lights up: honored, not honored, permitless
- 3Tap any state for the rules that change at the border
Travel legally
Know the law before you cross the line
Reciprocity map
Add your permits and see every state that honors them, color-coded on an interactive map with source citations.
State law details
Magazine limits, duty to inform, vehicle carry, signage rules — the details that actually change at the border, for all 50 states.
Trip check
Plot a route and get a leg-by-leg legality check against your permits before you leave the driveway.
Document everything
Records an insurer or executor could actually use
Full inventory
Every firearm with photos, serial numbers, purchase records, and current values. A doc score shows exactly what each record is missing.
Insurance-ready reports
Generate a PDF of your collection with photos and values — the document you want to already have when you need to make a claim.
Import and export freely
Bring your existing spreadsheet in with the CSV import wizard. Take everything out again anytime as CSV or JSON. Your records, portable.
Stay ready
The maintenance log that reminds you first
Maintenance intervals
Set service intervals by round count or time. Overdue cleaning and dead optic batteries surface on your dashboard before they surprise you.
Range day mode
A live tally screen built for the firing line: big round counters, per-firearm ammo tracking, malfunction logging on the spot.
Ammo stock and barcode restock
Track rounds on hand by caliber. Scan a box barcode to log a restock in seconds, prefilled from your last purchase.
Privacy architecture
Not a registry. By design, not by promise.
Most apps promise privacy in their terms of service. My Gun Notes enforces it in its architecture — we built a system where we cannot read your records, so you never have to trust that we won't.
Your device
All records stored locally in your browser's own database. Readable by you alone. Works with no signal.
Your passphrase
Optional sync encrypts everything on-device with AES-256-GCM. The key comes from a passphrase that never leaves your hands.
Our server
Sees only unreadable ciphertext. No plaintext serials, no values, no inventory — nothing to leak, sell, or hand over.
The exit test: if My Gun Notes disappeared tomorrow, the app on your device would keep working offline and your full records would export to CSV or JSON. That's the standard a records app should meet.

Straight answers
The questions that matter
Is this a gun registry?
No. My Gun Notes is local-first: your records live in your device's own storage, not in a central database. If you enable optional cloud sync, the server stores only ciphertext encrypted on your device with a passphrase we never receive — we could not read your records, or hand them to anyone else, even if compelled. There is no readable central list of who owns what.
Who can see my serial numbers and collection value?
You. On your device, serial numbers are masked behind a reveal toggle and a privacy mode hides sensitive sections entirely. With cloud sync enabled, data is encrypted end-to-end (AES-256-GCM, key derived from your passphrase) before it leaves your device, so neither we nor our hosting providers can read it.
What happens to my data if My Gun Notes shuts down?
You keep everything. Your records are stored on your device, so the installed app keeps working offline, and you can export your full collection as CSV or JSON at any time — no permission from us required. Lifetime and subscription purchases go through Stripe, and our code runs as a standard web app, not a proprietary lock-in format.
Do I need an account?
Yes — a free account takes about a minute and no card is required. The account exists for sign-in and optional encrypted sync; your firearm records themselves stay on your device unless you choose to sync them.
What is free and what is paid?
Free includes the full reciprocity map and unlimited records for your firearms, ammo, storage locations, and NFA items, plus full law detail for your home state and any state you hold a permit for — and a 14-day trial of everything premium when you sign up. Premium ($4.99/month, $39.99/year, or $99.99 once for lifetime) adds cloud sync across devices, full law detail for every state, insurance reports for your whole collection, valuation tools, push notifications, and unlimited trip checks. The comparison table above has the full breakdown.
Does it work on iPhone, Android, and desktop?
Yes. My Gun Notes is a progressive web app: open it in your browser and install it to your home screen or dock from there — no app store gatekeeping firearms content. Phones get a native-feeling app; desktops get a full layout with sortable tables for working through your records.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Because your data lives on the device, your inventory, permits, maintenance log, and cached state law data all work with no signal — including at the range or on the road.
How current is the state law data?
Law summaries are reviewed and updated regularly, each with source citations so you can verify the primary source yourself. Reciprocity and carry law can change quickly — always confirm against official state sources before you travel.
Is this legal advice?
No. My Gun Notes is an informational tool. It summarizes state law with citations to help you research, but it is not a substitute for the official statutes or for advice from a licensed attorney in the relevant state.
Can I import my existing spreadsheet?
Yes. The CSV import wizard maps your columns automatically (make, model, caliber, serial, values, dates), shows you a dry-run preview with any issues flagged, and imports in one pass. Ammo purchase history imports the same way.
Does it handle NFA items?
Yes — suppressors, SBRs, and other NFA items get their own tracking, including Form 1/Form 4 status and wait-time milestones, trusts, and tax stamp document storage. NFA records respect privacy mode like everything else.
Can I cancel anytime? How does lifetime work?
Subscriptions cancel anytime from the app with no retention hoops — you keep premium until the end of the paid period. Lifetime is a single $99.99 payment through Stripe: all premium features, permanently, no recurring charge.
